From a Life of Service to a Business Built on Service
Fourteen of Carlos's 16 years in the Navy were spent in supervisory leadership roles, eventually earning the rank of Chief Petty Officer in 2021. Military service reinforced principles that became the foundation of Shipshape: do the job right, be accountable for your work, take care of your people and never compromise your integrity.
After military service, Carlos attended Erwin Technical College's Automotive Service Technology program, combining classroom instruction with hands-on work on real customer vehicles. While learning the trade, he also attended entrepreneurship courses at night and began building Shipshape Auto Solutions.
The goal wasn't simply to open another repair business. It was to build the kind of automotive company customers deserve—one where the recommendation is based on what the vehicle genuinely needs, not how large an invoice can become.
